Thumbing through a magazine I notice an article on No Mow May. The article encourages us to give our native wildflowers a chance by letting our lawns grow during May. Well, I had not heard of this before, how had I missed it? Mowing the lawn is not up there on my top ten list of fun activities so I’m in, after all, how could I refuse, April had been such a wet month I already had a month’s start.
I wasn’t expecting to see a wildflower meadow but to my surprise, I did find some delightful species, Cowslips, Wild Violets, and Jack Frosts ( looks like Forget Me Nots ). The Cowslips are very beautiful and in serious decline due to the loss of woodlands and hedgerows so watching them in the sun I now won’t have the heart to go over them with the mower
This has also been the inspiration for our Meadow lovers gift box. The cover is handmade using a Sophie Allport fabric with a refillable lined notepad ideal. A pen for those gardening notes and a tin of meadow seeds
